Hush a Baby (Black Dog Island 2017)
This song is a lullaby. I had this idea as I was putting the melody together. Some off the lyrics began to flow and I thought about my children when they were born. The experience of that helped me move along with the song. This song didn’t flow at first. It took me about three years to finish it. That doesn’t mean that I was working on it all that time. It just means that I looked at it from time to time and eventually I was able to find the lyrics to finish the song. I try not to abandon songs like some writers. I wanted to finish the song and so I took my time with it. Rory and I looked at the idea of bringing a quartet in but the cello featured well enough on its own bringing the song to another dimension and so Hush a Baby came to life. I would consider this a deeper lyrical song than most of the others I wrote. If you study some of the lyrics you will see that it’s not a song that I could have wrote in one night. I had to dig very deep for lyrics on this one.
